About UsSince 1980, Silver Fox has been building a wealth of experience for labeling and identification systems.We operate in the process, energy, data and telecommunications markets from our offices in Welwyn in the UK. Our customers are located in all parts of the world and we are proud to have been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2005. In recent years, an increasing share of our production has been taken by our specialist products – pipe marking and pipe ID tape banding was originally developed in the 1990’s to meet the needs of the North Sea oil platforms. In the mid 90’s, our market research identified an opportunity in marking up process pipes. Our research found that where engineers used an adhesive label / band / mark, the products available were of poor quality because they would often need replacement within 12 to 18 months. The market research also identified that there was little innovation from suppliers because pipe tape was a low priority in the building of process plants. Silver Fox began a research programme to come up with a better product. We produced a dual layer polyester product where the base gives the strength and the laminate gives the UV stability; we also chose a quality solvent based adhesive that gives firm adhesion to the pipe. The product went through a series of independent tests – heat, cold, steam, salt spray, H2S and various chemicals. We also found a standard set up by the automotive industry to test the durability of their external mounted components (SAE J 1960) – since there are no standards for testing harsh external environments in the process industry, we put the product through these tests too. The product performed well and we began marketing it to the North Sea platforms. Now it is used around the world and is a recommended product to a number of organisations Our team in Welwyn Garden City develops all our labeling and identification solutions.
